In one word, I hate Blu-Ray because of Samsuck!
Yes, Blu-Ray movies look awesome on a high def T.V. Yes, they also sound great on my awesome Onkyo TX-SR705 Home Theater Receiver. My problem is with playability. Unfortunately, I was duped into buying a stand alone Blu-Ray player at the end of September instead of a Playstation 3
because the reviews on my player were amazing and I got a steal of a deal at the time. The problem is that I already have a growing list of Blu-Ray movies which will either not play, or have serious issues even with the newest firmware update (or in normal person terms it is basically the same as a Microsoft Windows update that is supposed to make everything better). Here is my current list (which I’m sure will groww next Tuesday with the next batch of weekly releases):
The Blu-Ray titles for this player that do not currently play with firmware 2.0 are:1. Pixar Shorts
2. Pirates of the Caribean: At World’s End
3. Mr. and Mrs. Smith
4. 3:10 To Yuma
5. Sunshine
2 Titles that I know of play on the player, but have serious problems:
1. Live Free or Die Hard
This movie will load and play, but you must load another SD DVD or Blu-Ray disc first. Then eject the disc in put in the LFODH disc. (It makes no difference what SD DVD or Blu-Ray title you load, it just matters that you do it for some reason).
2. Underdog
This movie has an intermittant problem so it sometimes will work, and sometimes will not. The problem is that you will sometimes get a region coding error message when you play the movie which locks up the player and requires you to power down the player and restart it again. I personally have only run accross the problem when I pause the movie long enough for the screen saver to turn on. Once you try to resume the movie, the region coding fiasco begins.
Now, that’s 7 movies with serious issues. Well, I currently own 30 total Blu-Ray movies. That equals out to over 1 out of every 5 movies I buy, don’t even work!!! WTF?
I have a collection of over 500 regular DVD’s that play with no problems. I also own over 50 HD DVD’s that also have no problems. WTF is wrong with Blu-Ray? There is not very many players out there right now, why can’t they make sure they will work on all like 10 players that exist before they release the movie? With Blu-Ray doing so much better than HD DVD right now, how can they find this acceptable?
Oh well, I feel better now that I have vented for the week. Next week though, Good Luck Chuck is coming out with my favorite hottie Jessica Alba. I shall post pictures of the aftermath of my player if that movie is added to my list of un-playable Blu-Rays. I’m sure you will find it amusing.
